It is with great sadness and sorrow that we bear the tragic news of the passing of our dear friend, Sky Saxon.
We learned of Sky's illness late last week and had hoped with all of our hearts for the best. On Monday morning, his condition worsened and Sky was hospitalized in an ICU in South Austin TX, pending further tests. It was suspected that he suffered from an internal organ infection.
Sky Saxon died just a few hours ago, this morning.
We are all truly stunned and saddened. Our hearts and prayers go out to his lovely wife, Sabrina, and to family, friends and the 900 Million People Daily whom he's lifted and touched with his music and strength through the years. Sky's passed on to celestial fields, but his energy and spirit remain eternal.
The flower children march on...
Wooly Weekend 2009 will be dedicated to the memory and exuberance of Sky Saxon. While there can never be a replacement, rest assured that we will shape together a fitting bash in unstoppable Sky fashion; Our concern right now is with the loss of our friend.
To anyone with a passing interest in 1960s garage music and appreciators of the timeless nature of basic rock and roll, the Seeds impact surely holds unequivocal. For a good many of us, Sky's force paved unhinged directions; tuning in and turning on to something far greater and more important than just old rock and roll records... We are truly sad that Sky Saxon will not be with us in August, but his influence will certainly be felt.
Through those raw & searing Sixties recordings, the Seeds are firmly planted as lasting primeval classics: The simple propelling organ riffs, frantic choking vocal delivery and three-chord machine-gun momentum weave a web of raw and abrasive auditory sensation that will continue to traverse the perpetual sound waves for as long as cool people endure to blast their records.
The spaceship that had carried Sky to this world has departed and with sadness in our hearts, we bid fond farewell to a beloved friend, true legend and musical soul, the likes of which we're unlikely to come across anytime soon. Sky's embarked on a far out trip, and we'll surely miss him.
